June 2026 Theme: The Season for Experiencing Brighter Countenance of God

Countenance can be defined both as a noun and a verb. As a noun, it can be defined as the appearance or expression of someone's face or the appearance conveyed by a person's face. As a verb, it can be defined as the approval or favour; encouragement; moral support for someone.

In the Bible, countenance refers to a person’s face or facial expression. More deeply, it represents how the outward face reveals a person’s inward spiritual, emotional, or moral condition.

There are different kinds of countenances that men display:

We have strong emotional countenances. These are direct overt reflections of a person's internal feelings (e.g., joy, anxiety, sorrow, anger). Someone like Nebuchadnezzar.

Daniel 3:19 NLT

“Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual.”

We have neutral countenances. These are countenances that give away very little information regarding the person's thoughts or feelings (e.g., an expressionless face, stolid, impassive, or placid expression). Someone like Leah.

Genesis 29:16-17 NLT

“Now Laban had two daughters. The older daughter was named Leah, and the younger one was Rachel. There was no sparkle in Leah’s eyes, but Rachel had a beautiful figure and a lovely face.”

We have physically induced countenances. These countenances are descriptions of the inherent, physical features of someone’s face rather than an emotion that they are experiencing (e.g., rugged face, weathered, youthful, or chiseled look). Someone like David.

1 Samuel 16:12 NLT

“So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.””

We have character induced countenances. These are expressions that seemingly project one’s personality traits, such as moral, intelligence, or authority (e.g., benevolent, austere, noble, or severe). Someone like Nabal.

1 Samuel 25: 3, 10, 25 NLT

“This man’s name was Nabal, and his wife, Abigail, was a sensible and beautiful woman. But Nabal, a descendant of Caleb, was crude and mean in all his dealings.

“Who is this fellow David?” Nabal sneered to the young men. “Who does this son of Jesse think he is? There are lots of servants these days who run away from their masters.

I know Nabal is a wicked and ill-tempered man; please don’t pay any attention to him. He is a fool, just as his name suggests. But I never even saw the young men you sent.”

The bible also tells us that God can vary His countenance towards His people depending upon how He rates their obedience, faith, trust, fellowship, service, etc, towards Him. God can deliberately depict different levels of favourable and unfavourable expressions towards men.

Genesis 4:3-4 AMP

“And in the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground. But Abel brought [an offering of] the [finest] firstborn of his flock and the fat portions. And the Lord had respect (regard) for Abel and for his offering, but for Cain and his offering He had no respect. So Cain became extremely angry (indignant), and he looked annoyed and hostile.”

The countenance of God is so significant, to the extent that God asked Moses to instruct Aaron to turn it into a prayer for the priests to declare it upon the Children of Israel perpetually.

Numbers 6:22-27 NKJV

“And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” ’ “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.””

The Lord God has impressed it upon my spirit that He will brighten His countenance upon us in this season more than ever before. His ‘face’ will turn towards us the more. He will show us His great lovingkindness. His favour will be heightened upon us.

The Lord Himself will bless and keep us. He will make His face to shine upon us. The Lord will give us peace. The radiance of God will become brighter upon our lives. The Lord will enable us to arise and shine. His glory will be more evident upon us.

The Lord will sustain us miraculously. He will protect us defensively. He will guard us jealously. The presence of God will be more evident in our midst. He will demonstrate His support and encouragement to us the more. His approval of us will also become higher. May God fulfil all these and many other favourable dimensions of Himself in our lives and in our midst in Jesus mighty name.
